Alhambra, Sala del Mexuar patio

A carved stucco panel in the small, open patio to the south of the Sala del Mexuar in the Alhambra, and situated above its southern entrance. The panel consists of 4x15 repeats of the small dark hexagons in the accompanying graphic, most of which alternate in the manner shown, apart from two with the opposite orientation in the top left corner. A star-and-cross pattern is picked out in white among the interlace.

• The symmetry group of the tiling is 442 (p4).
• All the internal angles of the constituent polygons are a multiple of 45°.
• Contains four squares.
• There are 6 non-regular reflective tiles.
• The tiling satisfies the interlace condition and has two finite interlaces and one infinite interlace with straight cross-overs.
• The tiling is edge-to-edge.
• As drawn, contains about 402 polygons.
